'The Returning Light' Original Artwork

'The Returning Light' came from a place of feeling like you don’t really have much left in you, but something small still wants to grow anyway.

I kept thinking about rebirth, but not in a big triumphant way. More in that quiet way where you’re tired, maybe a bit worn down, and it feels like everything’s been cut back to the stump. Like you’ve lost momentum or clarity or energy. And then somehow, something inside you still decides to try again.

That’s where the sapling came from. Growing out of something that looks finished. I love that in nature nothing is ever truly done. A tree gets cut down and life still finds a way through it. Not because it’s easy, but because that’s just what living things do.

The light in the background was really important to me. It’s not bursting in or overpowering the scene. It’s just there, slowly returning. Soft but steady. The kind of light that reminds you that even when things feel dark, it isn’t permanent.

This piece feels like hope, but not the loud kind. It’s the kind that grows quietly in the background. The kind that shows up even when you didn’t think you had anything left to give.

The Returning Light is about that moment where you realise you’re growing again, even if it’s small, even if it’s slow.

Original, one-of-one artwork – this is the only piece of its kind. There are no duplicates and it will not be recreated in the same form.

Medium: gouache on canvas – created by hand using layered techniques to build depth, softness, and subtle movement throughout the sky and stone heart.

Size: 13" x 16" cm – an intimate but impactful scale that allows the details and texture to be appreciated up close while still holding presence on a wall.

Framing: Professionally framed in a Japanese Black Ash Hand-Stained wood. The framing has been selected to complement the tones of the piece while allowing the artwork to remain the focal point.

Ready to hang: The artwork arrives fully framed with secure backing and hardware installed, so it can be placed and enjoyed immediately.

Care: This original has been sealed with a protective varnish to preserve colour and surface integrity over time. The varnish gives the piece a subtle reflective finish, meaning light may shift gently across the surface depending on its placement.

As the artwork is not framed behind glass, it is recommended to hang it away from direct sunlight and high-moisture areas to ensure longevity. Dust lightly with a soft, dry cloth if needed.

Shipping: Each original is carefully packaged with protective layers and cushioning to ensure it arrives safely. Framed artworks are boxed securely and handled with care.
