Introducing 'Where He Rests', an ode to meditation, Buddhism and discovering more from within. I’ve always wanted to paint a Buddha in a forest. There’s something about the roots of Buddhism that feels so deeply tied to nature, to stillness, to sitting beneath trees and turning inward rather than outward. I kept coming back to that image of quiet presence in the middle of something living and wild.
'Where He Rests' began with that idea. A figure resting quietly among the trees, almost as though he has always been there. Moss growing over him, light filtering through the canopy, the forest slowly wrapping around him rather than separating him from it.
As I painted, I didn’t want him to feel distant or untouchable. I wanted him to feel grounded and gentle. Like he belongs to the forest as much as the trees do. The greenery softening his edges felt important, like nature embracing him rather than reclaiming him.
The water at the front and the ducks drifting through it bring a kind of calm rhythm to the piece. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is trying to prove anything. It’s just quiet existence.
'Where He Rests' feels like a reminder that stillness isn’t weakness. That there’s strength in sitting, in observing, in being connected to something deeper than the surface of things. It feels ancient but soft at the same time.
This piece feels steady to me. Like a place you could return to when you need grounding, when you need to remember that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply rest. I hope you love it just as much as I did bringing it to life!
Artwork Details
Original, one-of-one artwork – this is the only piece of its kind. There are no duplicates, and it will not be recreated in the same form.
Medium: gouache on canvas – created by hand using layered techniques.
Size: 13 x 16 inches – an intimate but impactful scale that allows the details and texture to be appreciated up close while still holding presence on a wall.
Framing: Professionally framed in a Japanese Black Ash Hand-Stained wood. The framing has been selected to complement the tones of the piece while allowing the artwork to remain the focal point.
Ready to hang: The artwork arrives fully framed with secure backing and hardware installed, so it can be placed and enjoyed immediately.
Care: This original has been sealed with a protective varnish to preserve colour and surface integrity over time. The varnish gives the piece a subtle reflective finish, meaning light may shift gently across the surface depending on its placement. Please note some slight cracking in the paint has occurred due to changes in temperature. It hasn't effected the look of the piece and the price reflects this.
As the artwork is not framed behind glass, it is recommended to hang it away from direct sunlight and high-moisture areas to ensure longevity. Dust lightly with a soft, dry cloth if needed.
Shipping: Each original is carefully packaged with protective layers and cushioning to ensure it arrives safely. Framed artworks are boxed securely and handled with care.
Please allow additional time for processing and delivery as originals require thoughtful packing. Tracking details will be provided once dispatched.
A Note on Originals
This is the original artwork created by hand in my studio. It carries the natural variations, brush textures, and subtle shifts in pigment that only exist in a one-of-one piece. These details are not flaws, they are part of the painting’s history and what make it completely unique.
Original artworks hold the physical layers of the creative process: the time spent building colour, the quiet adjustments, the small decisions made along the way. Once sold, this piece will not be recreated or reproduced in this exact form. It will remain entirely yours.
